I've spent the past year, roughly, playing factions servers. I have to say, some of the ones I played, I loved. Others, however, I hated. Very few, like the majority of servers of any type, managed to stand the test of time. Running a server takes a level of dedication, teamwork and understanding of how players think and feel. Halcyon has been blessed with incredible staff.
If I could have my dream, it would be to have a SECOND Halcyon Server. I know we tried a PvP server before, but it was just straight PvP. I would love to see us have a Factions server. More Accurately, Factions+. F+ has a lot of extra customization available.
If I could have my dream, it would need to have certain other plugins that enhance the factions experience. Now, I only played Factions on 1.7 servers. I am not sure which of these plugins would make it to 1.8. However, since I'm dreaming, I'll assume they all will.
I know MCMMO is 1.8 functional, since we have it in PvE. Many servers that run it on PvP environments block some of the skills claiming it isn't fair for new players. I hate that. PvP should be about being able to work hard to become stronger than the nOOb that just started, and enjoying the rewards of that. nOObs should expect to have to work hard to compete with the vets. So, in my dream, all combat skills are enabled.
Mythic Drops. This plugin is super fun IF the staff is able to figure out how to balance out the drops and program in some fun surprises. It lets mobs drop special weapons and armor with sockets, as well as dropping 'gems' with power ups for the gear, like inflicting blindness, wither, etc.
Obby Breaker. No one should be TOO safe.
NO CREEPER EGGS. No one should be TOO vulnerable either.
No restrictions on using the nether. Sure, building a base on the nether roof is not something just anyone can raid, because not just anyone can get up there. However, those that know ways prove they are more adept players, right? they should reap the rewards.
Don't ask me to run such a server as this. I want to PLAY it.
No staff should be able to raid/pvp or help anyone else raid/pvp someone without the targets consent. Its just bad business.
Offline Explosions disabled. A lot of players complain about this because they want to raid someone when they aren't around. However, where is the fun or challenge in that. Everyone deserves the chance to fight for their stuff. So, factions flag disabling esplosions in a factions territory unless at least one member is online is key to a challenging, fun, and fair raiding/pvping experience.
Heh, I don't know if my dream will ever see light. However, as I think of more stuff to add to this dream thread, I just might. I did see a lot of things that worked for factions servers, and a lot that killed many servers.
